In order to expedite matters the presents translation was made from the typescript of the French with some manuscript additions and corrections. Before it could be published, however, the author brought out the first half of it in French as Book I. A further points to notice is that the author writes an idiomatic French and at many points has specific situations in mind are peculiar to his own land.
