Being human: groundwork for a theological anthropology..

What is a human being? At several times in history, the Christian traditions have provided answers to this question. Today, theology is called upon to consider it yet again, at a time where old and new perspectives clash, and some of the Christian answers may seem to be out of touch with current contexts and sensibilities. In the midst of such discussions, this volume deliberately takes up the challenge to reconsider the contribution of Gaudium et Spes for a contemporary theological anthropology, as a springboard for further reflection. And it does so very successfully! From a variety of philosophical and theological approaches, researchers from the Anthropos in the Antipodes group energetically tackle the main anthropological issues: the relation between God and humanity, world and history; the human being as a moral subject; responsibility and the problem of evil; atheism and religious pluralism; human agency in the world.
