This is a very good introductory book on Christian history. It provides a lot of information considering it is trying to cover 2000+ years of history in 12 chapters. It provides some interesting details and history on events and people that shaped Christianity, for good and bad. You can then do further research on those topics that interest you. Can be used as a companion to the 12 week video course of the same name. It provides much more detail in a chapter than can be covered in a 20-30 minute video session. The chapters do not exactly cover the same time period as each video session, but match well enough.
