We make promises to God and to one another without knowing for certain how those promises will unfold. We make promises "in the dark." God also made a promise through creation and renewed it through the resurrection. That promise is the basis of all human hope. If promises are the way by which human beings love God and one another in the dark, then the divine promise can also be viewed as God loving us in the dark.
