Philosophy for understanding theology
Christian theology has always been concerned with philosophy, if only, as with Tertullian, Kerkegaard and Karl Barth, to reject it. One of the greatest problems facing the early church was how to express the Christian faith in terms of the Greek culture of its day, a process with involved many controvercies and led up to the creeds, and in modern times Christian thinkers have fought the challenges of materialism and logical positivism, or allied themselves with process philosophy, idealism, existentialism or Marxism..
