The sovereignty of grace
The Sovereignty of Grace," by Arthur Custance, does much more than defend the so-called five points of Calvinism, although it does this admirably. It also provides a brief history of the doctrine of grace, discussing its biblical roots, and then tracing it through Augustine, the middle ages (including Gottschalk the Monk), and into the time of the Reformation, first looking at how Luther understood it, and then discussing its fruition in Calvin and Calvinism..
