The Bible in its literary milieu
This book definitely is not for the beginner. Graduate-level Scripture students and academics will be comfortable among these pages; those of the rest of us with some background will be able to plug along after a fashion. A second stipulation: the "25 leading biblical and literary scholars" who contribute previously-published essays espouse "higher criticism"; their historical/literary method of interpretation deals with the origin of the books of the Bible solely in terms of history and literary development. Literary inspiration, rather than divine inspiration, will be their area of investigation.
