The servant Messiah: a study of the public ministry of Jesus, c.1-2
The Old Testament and the history of Judaism tell us much about the Jew's hope a Messiah; but the early ideas of Israel's savior are contradicted by Christ's own conception of his Ministry. Dr. Manson's aim is to make this contradiction historically intelligible; to show how the vision of a triumphant national hero was transformed by Jesus, in his teaching and his practice, and above all in his Passion, into the ideas of service which are preserved in the Church today.
