This book goes into some depth in understanding Jesus' arguments with the Pharisees based on Jewish arguments of the first century.It comes to the Gospel of John from a social-historical point of view. I would recommend that you first read Neyrey's book, "Christ Is Communities," and Fortuna's "The Fourth Gospel" before you tackle this book. A good but scholarly book..
