The prophets as preachers: an introduction to the Hebrew.., c.1-2
The Old Testament prophetic books arguably are amongst either some of the more overlooked books of the Bible or the most misunderstood. Filled with symbolism, historical accounts, vivid imagery, and often very pointed declarations of God’s displeasure with His people, fully grasping what the prophets are saying, who they were addressing, and to a large degree who these prophets were on a personal level has often been relegated to the arena of the scholar, thus leaving the layman to engage mere snippets of the prophetic genre. Dr. Gary Smith, in his book The Prophets as Preachers: An Introduction to the Hebrew Prophets, provides the reader with an introductory yet comprehensive insight into the life, times, and message of the OT Hebrew prophets.
