A watered garden: a brief history of the Protestant reformed..
A WATERED GARDEN had its beginnings in the mid 1980's when the late Professor Homer C. Hoeksema was asked to write a comprehensive history of the seventy-year-old denomination of the Protestant Reformed Churches. He and his wife Gertrude started research in this project and developed an extensive outline. They realized that the history of a denomination is molded by its adherence to the Scriptural beliefs and doctrines of that denomination. Especially one Scriptural concept serves as a guideline for this history: the organic growth and development of God's church as He calls and guides it throughout history. As the Scriptures use the growth of a garden to picture the church, so the author uses the watered garden as the theme for this history.
"And thou shalt be like a watered garden, and like a spring of water, whose waters fail not. - Isaiah 58:11
