First and second Thessalonians: triumphs and trials of a consecrated..

I suppose I have to explain the context of my reading in order to make sense of where I am coming from in my review and why I mention other commentaries of 1 Thessalonians also. I used this commentary among others while I teaching through our church's Sunday School series through 1 Thessalonians as a supplement in gleaming over any further insight into the text after my initial Greek translation and my own exegetical observation. After completing 1 Thessalonians, I thought I continue reading this book for my own personal devotional. This commentary is not a technical exegetical/critical commentary by nature. However, for those looking for a Dispensational pre-tribulation take on 1 Thessalonians, this would be a good devotional commentary. For the expositor, a good role for this book would be for the preacher to have another expositor to compare how one would outline 1 and 2 Thessalonians. The author at times does point out some of the lexical and syntactical insight, though I wished he had more (a good commentary that I found for such insights into 1 Thessalonians was D. Edmond Hiebert's commentary). Surprisingly, in regards to exegetical insight I found this work to have been more useful than F.F. Bruce's Word Biblical Commentary (!). What I particularly like was his "Overviews" sprinkled throughout the book, which were excursus that explored further issues or themes related to the passage at hand. I also enjoyed the 2 Thessalonians portion of this commentary.
