On language, culture and religion: in honor of Eugene A. Nida
I knew one of the editors, Dr. William A. Smalley personally. He and this book are great at seeing the larger picture in linguistics. His strength, and I think Black's, is in seeing the whole field of models and theories. Its a little theoretical at times, but if you want to replace a paradigm, then you need to know the model you are replacing and the theory you are replacing it with. Nida, while more pragmatic than some linguists is an important contributor.
