The writer's approach is off putting for most general readers. This book is meant for other scholars already versed in the Middle Ages and one wonders if one were well versed already, why the read? Mr. Huizinga makes many observations supported by long unclear proofs naming personages the average reader either never heard of or knows little about. The overall expression about the changing world view of the late Middle Ages and the impact of it on the culture is the highlight of the book and could have been accomplished in far fewer words
