This book is excellent to understand how Christianity has evolved, from it's beginnings up through today. Be advised, not everything you read is going to make you feel comfortable. There was a time when the church murdered millions of men, women and children , destroying 1/3 of Europe in an effort to convert everyone to Christianity or death. It's thorough, concise and easy to read, I doubt you could find a better book on the subject. I own one very well read version and give others away as gifts. It's only after they have had it awhile that my friends have thanked me for giving them a book, instead of something more "practical".
