This is the first one-volume edition of what is perhaps Dr. Schweitzer's greatest work. It was first published in England in two volumes. The Decay and the Restoration of Civilization, and Civilization and Ethics. The author is now working on a third volume which will conclude the Philosophy.
Shortly after the First World War when Europe was completely disorganized both spiritually and physically, Dr. Schweitzer delivered the Dale Memorial Lectures at Mansfield College, Oxford. These lectures comprise the life philosophy which he had been gradually workong out. Upon these lectures the present book is based.
