The beatitudes and the Lord's prayer
n today's politics it is called a fifteen second sound bite. Words or phrase spoken by a presidential spoken as part of a larger speech or interview. It is presented by the news media as news of that particular candidate's campaign for that day. Sometimes given in proper perspective and sometimes presented out of context and lack of relationship to what the person was speaking about. Phrases from the sermon of the mount are some times used as sound bites. Sermons are preached about a phrase spoken by Jesus in the Beatitudes: Words torn out of context to fit the sentiment of man. The sermon may fit the preacher's predisposition towards rationalism and ignore Jesus words stating for my sake. Yes the Beatitudes are words that should humble the listener and promote serving your fellow man, but it should do for Christ's sake and the building the Kingdom of God.
