The certainty of faith

BAVINCK, Herman - Personal Name;

This is an outstanding book for a Christian who believes in order to understand. If you like Van Til's presuppositional apologetics, Lesslie Newbigin's many great emphases, M. Polanyi's "personal" knowing, or Michael Horton's "Covenant and Eschatology" you'll love this book. It is short (97 smaller pages), pastoral, practical, and loaded with solid discussions on history, knowledge, and scriptural principles of knowledge and faith.
The structure of the book can be summarized as follows: I) The Loss of Certainty II) What is Certainty (science, religion, theology, faith, and testimony) III) The Way to Certainty (scientific proof, liberal solutions, failures, gospel, faith, sacraments, and good works).
Again, Bavinck knows the historical "flow" of human thought, from Aristotle to Paul to Aquinas to Descartes; it shows in this book. He interacts with many positions in a great understandable manner and draws out many biblical points of what faith in Christ really is, and how it carries with it certainty in life or death.
