This important little volume was produced as an occasional paper by the Presbyterian Historical Society of England in 1937 . S.W. Carruthers and his father William Carruthers distinguished themselves as scholars of the texts of both the Confession and Shorter Catechism. The critical editions of the Confession in use today various Presbyterian and Reformed communions owe their accuracy to the presisrent and precise labors of the Carruthers. This book not only provides a critical text and apparatus, but also an account of history of the textual variations found in the leading editions of that great document.
