Geoffrey Parrinder spent twenty years living and teaching in Africa and studying African religions. He has travelled widely in India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Burma, Iran, Israel, Turkey, Japan, Australia and North America. "Encountering World Religions" describes some of the different people and religions that Professor Parrinder has met with during his travels and offers an account of the impact of different religions upon his life and work. He writes about Buddhism, Shinto, Hinduism, Sikhism, Islam, Judaism, African and fringe religions, and describes some of their beliefs and practices. Central to the study is his consideration of the attitudes of one religion to another, the problems associated with missionary activity and the difficulties of teaching about other religions than one's own.
