Nazareth was just a small village of few houses built around a Franciscan monastery and a mosque. A caravanserai served the occasional traveller passing through. Today, Nazareth is a large city, the administrative center of the Galilee and home to tens of thousands of Christian and Moslem Arabs as well as a large Jewish population.
