Text
The history of Israel, c. 1-2
Israel is first described as it formed the confederation of the twelve tribes, with its institutions and traditions. Then the development of political power under David and Solomon, and the subsequent subjection to the rule of the Assyrians, the Persians, and the Macedonians are traced. Finally, the author explores the Maccabean rising, the revival of the monarchy, and the last decline and fall of Israel in the Roman period.
